Xavier's University Psychology Society

XAVPSYCH – Xavier's University Psychology Society is the official student body of the Department of Psychology at St. Xavier's University, Kolkata. The society serves as a dynamic platform for students to explore psychology beyond the classroom by fostering academic excellence, creativity, social awareness, and meaningful discussions on mental health and human behaviour.

Guided by the faculty members of the Department of Psychology and managed by a dedicated student executive committee, XAVPSYCH aims to cultivate an inclusive environment where students can engage in experiential learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and community outreach initiatives.

XAVPSYCH comprises:

  • Faculty Coordinators from the Department of Psychology
  • Student Office Bearers (Secretary, Asst. Secretary, Treasurer.)
  • Heads and members of various committees such as Events, Public Relations, social media, Design, Documentation, Logistics, and Content
  • Student members from different semesters of the Psychology Department as Working Committee Members

The society strives to:

  • Promote awareness and understanding of psychological concepts and mental health issues.
  • Encourage critical thinking, creativity, and the practical application of psychological knowledge.
  • Provide opportunities for students to develop leadership, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Organize academic, cultural, and outreach activities that bridge psychology with everyday life.
  • Create safe spaces for dialogue, self-expression, and mutual support within the university community.
PSYSPHERE'25

Held on 10 October 2025 in observance of World Mental Health Day, PSYSPHERE'25 revolved around the theme "Access to Services – Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies." The event featured a Nukkad Natak by Marga Studios, the poster-making competition Canvas of Coping, the turncoat debate Ctrl + Alt + Heal, and the inter-department street-play competition Live Minds: Voices of Psyche. Through these events, participants reflected on resilience, accessibility of mental healthcare, and the importance of empathy during crises." Suicide Prevention Awareness Month (2025)

As part of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, XAVPSYCH organized a creative awareness initiative aimed at encouraging conversations around suicide prevention, hope, and seeking support. Students from all semesters of the Department of Psychology designed thoughtful and visually engaging posters carrying messages of resilience, empathy, and mental health advocacy. The posters reflected diverse perspectives on prevention, coping, and the importance of reaching out during difficult times. To extend their impact beyond the campus, these artworks were showcased through XAVPSYCH's social media platforms, allowing the messages to reach a wider audience and fostering greater awareness about suicide prevention and the significance of timely intervention.

Organized on 21 March 2026, Psynergy'26 marks the annual psychology fest that embraced the theme "Psych-Carnival," celebrating the diversity and vibrancy of psychology through academic and cultural events. Competitions such as PsyCirque, Case Carousel, Psychopoly, Psychbooth, Mehfil-E-Psyche, Between the Synapses, Psyrhythm, Mr. & Miss Cogniverse, PsyQ, and Psychtank encouraged participants to showcase their creativity, analytical skills, and psychological understanding in an atmosphere of learning and festivity.

XAVRANG'26

At Xavrang'26, XAVPSYCH successfully hosted three unique events: Psych in Cinema, which explored psychological themes and character portrayals in films; Cognitive Clash, an engaging psychology quiz testing participants' knowledge and critical thinking; and Beyond the Evidence, a forensic psychology event that introduced participants to criminal profiling, investigations, and case analysis. These events promoted interdisciplinary learning while showcasing psychology in an interactive and innovative manner.
