ABOUT THE LIBRARY
The St. Xavier's University Library is well equipped with modem facilities and resources (print and electronic) in the form of online databases, micro-documents, books, journals, reports, etc. It has also developed a full-fledged Digital Library equipped with necessary modem equipment in order to provide various digital mode library services.
Fr. Arrupe Central Library building at St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata spans over an area of 21,870 sq.ft., encompassing ground floor and four floor building along with a centralized air-conditioned library. It has a seating capacity of 400 persons and follows Open Access System blended with hi-tech facilities. Library has a lending library in the ground floor, reading library in the first floor, Law and MBA library in the second floor and Ph.D library in the third floor. The library subscribes to many databases to facilitate quality teaching, learning & research. Digital Library accesses to electronic information services to ensure the information needs of our students and faculty. Faculty members and students can access e-Journals and e-Books from JSTOR, EBSCO, Project MUSE, Legitquest, Lexis Advance India, Manupatra, Taxmann Research, JGate Plus, AIR online world, EPWRF, ProwessIQ, LawFinder Live, CAPITALINE AWS, MICA Indian Marketing Intelligence (MIMI), ProQuest Psychology, Cengage Gale Database, XLS, XBS gateways digital portal.
Our vision is to provide world class knowledge resources not only to cater to the curricular requirements but also to inspire intellectual enquiry and research. There are separate stack areas for books, reference materials, Magazines and periodicals. The reading library has Virtual Learning Centre (Digital Library) and reprographic/printing/scanning Section.
Our library is fully automated with KOHA Library Management System and integrated with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) with bar coding of books, RFID tags, Self-Issue/Return kiosk that enable laser scanning of issues and returns. Information Kiosk (Digital Signage) has been installed in the main entrance of the library to display the library holdings, new arrivals and notice/event. Using Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC/Web OPAC), the users can search the library online catalogue by author, title and keywords. The users also can get to know latest addition of periodicals, books and status of a document. Our library is an active member of E-ShodhSindhu Consortium and member of NDLI (National Digital Library of India) in order to avail the benefits of various services. In addition, our library is enrolled as Institutional Member of British Council Library (BCL), USIS Library, Kolkata and DELNET to avail the service of Inter Library Loan. To maintain the research quality and avoid the unethical process our library has plagiarism detection tools. We have subscribed Turnitin feedback Studio software and DrillBit - Extreme software with support of INFLIBNET UGC-ShodhSuddhi Project.
This library has implemented a great number of projects from MoE-UGC-INFLIBNET like Vidwan profile creating all individual faculty members, IRINS profile for SXUK, PDS-Shodhsuthi, Swayam Prabha, INFED (Indian Federation Access Management), ePG Pathsala, ShodhChakra and Swayam (NPTEL). Our library is using DSpace Software as an Institutional repository for archiving of faculty members publications and old question papers for the reference. With all the facilities that we have in our library, the faculty, staff, and students are able to imbibe the knowledge and transmit it to others.
