Indian Knowledge System (IKS) Cell
About IKS Cell:
The Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) Cell at St. Xavier's University, Kolkata (SXUK) has been established to explore, preserve, and integrate India's rich intellectual and cultural heritage into modern education.
Guided by Rev. Dr. John Felix Raj, S.J., Vice-Chancellor of SXUK as the Chairperson of the IKS Cell, the vision of the cell is to promote indigenous wisdom, scholarship, and collaboration. We draw from India’s timeless traditions in fields like mathematics, medicine, astronomy, philosophy, and law to foster our nation's wisdom, support scholarly research, and encourage collaboration across different subjects.
In line with the long-standing Jesuit tradition of academic excellence and service, and in full agreement with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the IKS Cell seeks to position SXUK as a top centre for the Indian Knowledge Studies.
Our goal is to offer a transformative educational experience, guided by Jesuit values of 'magis', 'curo personalis' and the harmonious balance of faith and reason, that helps students apply ancient Indian wisdom to contemporary challenges in law, public policy, and science.
