Statistics

The Department of Statistics commenced its operations in August 2022. It currently offers one undergraduate programme, B.Sc. (Hons.) in Statistics and Data Science, and one postgraduate programme, M.Sc. in Statistics. The department presently comprises five full-time faculty members and two Adjunct Professors. The current undergraduate and postgraduate batches follow the curriculum aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, with an emphasis on multidisciplinary learning, skill development, experiential learning, Indian Knowledge System, and the integration of contemporary tools and methodologies. The department is committed to providing students with a strong foundation in statistics along with rigorous practical training through a multifaceted teaching-learning approach. All classrooms are ICT-enabled to make learning more interactive and engaging. The curricula have been designed keeping in view the evolving requirements of industry, academia, and research organisations, thereby providing students with a well-rounded academic foundation. The NEP-aligned curriculum further facilitates flexibility, interdisciplinary learning, and the development of employability-oriented skills. Recognising the growing importance of computational techniques in modern data analysis, the department has a well-equipped laboratory with advanced computing facilities. Emphasis is placed on developing problem-solving, statistical computing, and programming skills, which are essential for both academic advancement and professional success. The department also aims to strengthen its academic environment through special lecture sessions, seminars, workshops, and other scholarly activities that provide students and faculty members with opportunities to engage with emerging trends, contemporary methodologies, and recent technological developments in Statistics and Data Science.
