Xavier's University Economics Society
Inaugurated on 11th April 2019, the Xavier's University Economics Society (XAVECOS) stands as the vibrant intellectual and creative heartbeat of the Department of Economics. Born from a shared passion for economic thought and inquiry, the society brings together thirty student representatives drawn from both the B.A. and M.A. programs, forming a dynamic community of young minds eager to engage with the world of economics beyond the classroom.
XAVECOS is more than a student body — it is a platform where curiosity is nurtured, ideas are challenged, and academic horizons are broadened. Through a rich calendar of annual summits, seminars, workshops and diverse academic programs, the society creates spaces for meaningful dialogue, critical thinking, and collaborative learning. These events are not confined to the walls of the department alone — students from colleges and universities across the country are welcomed as active participants, fostering a wider academic exchange and building connections that extend well beyond the university.
XAVECOS is thoughtfully structured to ensure both effective governance and broad participation. Of its thirty members, twenty-two form the Working Committee— the driving force behind the society's day-to-day activities and events. These are the individuals who brainstorm ideas, coordinate programs, engage with fellow students, and bring the society's vision to life with tireless effort and enthusiasm.
Overseeing and guiding this energy is the Core Committee, comprising eight members who serve as the strategic and administrative backbone of the society. Within this core leadership, two Joint Secretaries work in close coordination to manage communications, maintain records, and ensure the seamless execution of all programs and events. Complementing their role is the Treasurer, who oversees the financial affairs of the society with diligence and transparency, ensuring that every resource is utilized in the best interest of its members and activities.
XAVECOS strives to cultivate an environment where intellectual curiosity is celebrated and academic ambition is encouraged. By bringing together students from diverse backgrounds and disciplines, the society fosters a culture of open dialogue, collaborative thinking, and mutual growth — where differing perspectives are not just welcomed, but seen as essential to a richer understanding of economic realities. The society is committed to bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application. Through seminars, workshops, and interactive sessions, XAVECOS equips students with the analytical tools and practical insights needed to navigate an ever-evolving economic landscape — preparing them not just for examinations, but for meaningful careers and purposeful lives.
