Department of Psychology organizes seminar
Department of Psychology of St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (SXUK) organized a seminar on “Psychotherapy Formulation through a Trauma Lens” on January 21, 2026 at the university campus.
This seminar aimed to provide useful insights into trauma-informed psychological practice and clinical formulation. The resource person was Dr. Sampurna Chakraborty, Amity Institute of Behavioural Health and Allied Sciences (AIBHAS), Noida.
Dr. Chakraborty explained the study of trauma from various clinical viewpoints, mainly focusing on the neurobiology of trauma, highlighting its impact on brain functioning and emotional regulation. She helped people comprehend both acute and chronic trauma experiences by talking about "Big T" and "Little T" trauma. She discussed the 4Rs of Trauma-Informed Care in a way that made the session engaging for the students.
Participants were also introduced to the Trauma in Context Model and the main areas of formulation, which include pre-trauma vulnerability and post-trauma context. The lecture ended with an interactive session.
