St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (SXUK) celebrated Sishu Mela 2024 on December 17, 2024 at the university campus. This is an annual flagship event organised by the Centre for Social Outreach Programme (CSOP) of SXUK.

This event aims to foster strong community relations and build trust with the local communities, especially with school-going children. The objective is to empower these children through activities that stimulate cognitive development, encourage them to showcase their talents, and make them feel like a part of the Xavier family.

Rev. Dr. John Felix Raj, SJ, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of SXUK inaugurated the programme amid the august presence of Prof. Ashis Mitra, Registrar; Dr. I K Maitra, Controller of Examinations; Deans, Heads of different departments and faculty members.

The event witnessed the participation of 174 underprivileged children from the neighbouring villages. 120 student volunteers of SXUK worked actively in the event to make it successful. The programme included stage performances, fun-filled activities, and competitions, promoting a sense of togetherness and community spirit.

Sishu Mela 2024 reaffirmed the university's commitment to social outreach and community development, creating lasting bonds and opportunities for underprivileged children to shine. The event showcased the university's dedication to providing a platform for the marginalised and fostering a sense of belongingness.
