St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (SXUK) celebrated its 9th Foundation Day on February 8, 2025 at the university campus. Shri Binod Kumar, IAS, the Principal Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal was the Chief Guest.

While delivering the inaugural speech, Father Felix Raj recalled the university’s Foundation Stone laying ceremony in 2013 and highlighted the unwavering support of Mamata Banerjee, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal since 2011. He further added, “We conferred on her the D.Litt (Honoris Causa) in 2023.”

Father Raj unveiled the strategic plan of the university, the Vision 2050 along with Mr. Binod Kumar in the presence of dignitaries and presented a copy to Mr. Kumar.

While delivering his Foundation Day speech, Mr. Binod Kumar said, “The State Education Policy, 2023 of the Government of West Bengal promises unwavering support and commitment towards the holistic development of students and higher education. St. Xavier’s University has been contributing a lot to the education in the state.” He also mentioned the importance of private-public partnership model in education sector and the industry-academia interface, with SXUK playing a vital role.

The programme ended with a prize distribution ceremony to the winners of an essay and poster-making competition, followed by a high tea.
