Department of Mass Communication of St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (SXUK) organised a special lecture for its postgraduate students on November 7, 2025 at the university campus.

Mr. Tahir Abbas, Principal News Coordinator, Times Now Media Group delivered a lecture on the changing setup of the TV newsroom.

Mr. Abbas highlighted major transformations within television newsrooms, from the traditional setup of linear news production to the highly digitized, fast-paced, and multi-platform operations of today. He discussed how newsroom coordination has become more complex due to the rise of social media, real-time reporting, and the demand for instant updates. He also emphasized the importance of credibility, fact-checking, and teamwork in maintaining journalistic standards amidst the race for breaking news.

The lecture concluded with an interactive session with the students. Dr. Harish Kumar, Head of the Department of Mass Communication coordinated the programme.
