Department of Computer Science of St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (SXUK) organised the fourth industry tech-talk “From Automation to Autonomy: Data Science in the Era of Robots” on November 4, 2025 at the university campus.

Prof. Maria Kyrarini from Santa Clara University (SCU), California, USA was the resource person. 90 students of departments of Computer Science, Statistics, and Data Science attended the session.

Prof. Kyrarini highlighted the importance of data science given the rapid growth in the field of autonomous agents. She also explained students’ projects under her guidance in the field of robotics, including one that designed and deployed a robot that learns to play sports like football and basketball.

The special lecture helped students to understand concepts of human-robot interaction, robot learning and assistive robotics to enhance human performance.
