Annual Sports Day is one of the calendar events organised by the Xavier Sports Society of St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata. Our Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Father Dr John Felix Raj, always encourages sports as a means of holistic development of students, and students, faculty members, other supporting staff, and alumni of this university participated in various sports events with sporting spirit and enthusiasm at the end of “Walkathon – Xaverian Walk for Peace" on Saturday, 07th Feb 2026. 

Shri Bhaskar Mukherjee, from the Indian Police Service, the guest of honour, and Fr. Vice-Chancellor, Fr. Javier Jayraj, Registrar, Dr Indra Kanta Maitra, Controller of Examination, Dr Soma Sur, Hony. Director, LCERI and Coordinator, Ph.D. Programme, and the Deans of all the Faculties and Schools graced this event.

Annual Sports Day 2026 kicked off with a parade by the Army Band, Bihar Regiment, followed by the faculty members, supporting members, the NCC contingent, and, most importantly, the students’ contingents from all the Faculties and Schools of SXUK. On the compilation of the parade, the guest of honour, the Vice-Chancellor, and other dignitaries set the tone of the event by hosting flags and flying pigeons. In their inaugural speech, they highlighted several aspects of sport’s potential, expressed satisfaction at being invited to this university, and encouraged participants.

This event consisted of several competitions, followed by the prize distribution ceremony. A large number of both undergraduate and postgraduate students competed in this event. This time, students made several new records. Mr Anuran Paul from BMS, was awarded the Fr. Joseph Maliyekal Memorial Trophy, and Ms Aanya Paul from B.Com, bagged the Fr. Joe D’Souza Memorial Trophy as the best male and female athlete of SXUK for 2025-26.
