An exciting cricket match took place between St. Xavier's University Kolkata Alumni Association (SXUKAA) and St. Xavier's University Faculty and Staff members on February 22, 2025 at the university ground in which the SXUKAA team lifted the President’s Cup 2025.

While inaugurating the match, Rev. Dr. John Felix Raj S.J., Vice-Chancellor of SXUK and also the President of SXUKAA said, “I congratulate both the teams for participating in the President’s Cup. Sports is an integral part of academics and it helps to build up a healthy body and mind.”

The university Faculty and Staff team won the toss and decided to bowl first. The Staff and Faculty team was led by Sudipto Ghosh and the Alumni team’s captain was Ajitesh Prasad, a former student of Xavier Business School.

Batting first, the SXUKAA Alumni team scored 214 runs for 6 wickets in 16 overs. The Faculty and Staff team made 165 runs in 16 overs. Ayush Ray, a left-hand batsman of SXUKAA bagged the Man of the Match award as he scored 49 runs in 16 balls. He hit 6 over boundaries. Rishabh Agarwal, a right-hand batsman of the victorious team scored 43 runs in 17 balls and finished not out. He hit 5 over boundaries and 2 boundaries.

Amit Kanji’s single over deliveries cost the Faculty and Staff team 24 runs to chase. Anupam Mitra, right-hand batsman of the Faculty and Staff team scored 40 runs in 22 balls before being bowled out by Fr. Franklin Sando. Mitra hit 5 boundaries and 2 over boundaries. Arup Anthony’s spell picked up Sudipto Ghosh too early, which brought a setback to the Faculty and Staff team.

Fr. Felix Raj handed over the President’s Cup to the winners and also congratulated each player of both teams with medals.
