SXUK hosts 5th Annual Economics Summit

Department of Economics of St. Xavier's University, Kolkata (SXUK) in collaboration with Xavier’s University Economics Society (XAVECOS) hosted the fifth Annual Economics Summit 2025 on February 20, 2025 at the university campus.

Students of both undergraduate and postgraduate sections of economics and other social science subjects from institutions, colleges and universities across India, including Jadavpur University, Presidency University, Madras School of Economics, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Amity University, Praxis Business School, Ashutosh College, and Gurudas College, Kolkata participated in the summit.

The inaugural address was delivered by Dr. Alex M Thomas, Associate Professor of the Azim Premji University, Bengaluru. The title of his lecture was “Kanta Ranadive, Krishna Bharadwaj and the history of economic thought.”

An innovative poster presentation by undergraduate students showcased fresh economic perspectives, while a panel discussion on “The future of women at the workplace” sparked insightful conversations. The session was moderated by Rev. Dr. John Felix Raj, Vice-Chancellor of SXUK, and featured esteemed speakers Prof. Sahana Roy Chowdhury, IMI Kolkata; Dr. Supurna Banerjee, IDSK and Ms. Ruchira Goswami, NUJS.

Students submitted research papers on different topics like education economics, gender economics, health economics, and development economics.

The summit concluded with a valedictory address by Prof. Asis Kumar Banerjee, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Calcutta, followed by a prize distribution ceremony to the outstanding research paper presenters.
