SXUK launches MAGIS lecture series
Faculty of Commerce and Management of the St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (SXUK) organised the inaugural edition of the FCM MAGIS Distinguished Lecture Series – Volume I, Series I on August 8, 2026 at the university campus.
Rooted in the Jesuit philosophy of Magis, the initiative aims to promote academic excellence by connecting classroom learning with contemporary professional perspectives.
The resource persons were Dr. Debasish Sur of the University of Burdwan and Dr. Prem Kumar Agarwal of Goenka College of Commerce and Business Administration.
The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Fr. Dr. Xavier Jeyaraj, S.J., Registrar of SXUK in the presence of dignitaries.
Dr. Debasish Sur delivered lecture on “360 Degree Risk Assessment: Understanding Risk Beyond Conventional Measures.” He highlighted the limitations of conventional approaches to risk measurement and emphasised the need for a comprehensive understanding of organisational risks.
Dr. Prem Kumar Agarwal discussed “Contract Law Demystified: The Legal Science Behind Everyday Agreements.” He explained the legal principles governing everyday agreements and highlighted their relevance in personal, commercial and professional transactions.
Both sessions featured interactive discussions encouraging students to engage critically with the topics. The lecture series was well received and provided students with valuable insights into risk assessment and contract law.
