SXUK celebrates International Women’s Day

In a bid to commemorate the International Women’s Day 2025, the Women and Gender Development Cell (WGDC) of St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (SXUK) in collaboration with the Regional Labour Office, Barasat, Government of West Bengal organised a workshop on gender sensitization at the university campus on February 19, 2025.

The workshop focused on generation of awareness of the rights of women employees at their workplaces. Rev. Dr. John Felix Raj, S.J., the Vice-Chancellor of SXUK appreciated the steps.

Ananya Dutta Chowdhury, Additional Labour Commissioner of West Bengal, conducted the workshop. A total of 40 faculty members, officers, support staff and students of SXUK attended this workshop. Participants received certificates at the end. Dr. Antara Ghatak was the coordinator of the event.

As a part of this event, a medical camp was also held by the WGDC of SXUK in collaboration with the Desun Hospital and AM Medical Centre on March 8, 2025 at the university campus.

Dr. Shreya Chatterjee, Clinical Oncologist at the Desun Hospital, shared an insightful lecture on cervical and breast cancer and made the audience aware of early detection and regular screenings for women’s health.

The camp offered medical tests like measuring blood pressure and glucose level, checking dental problems, eye testing and general health assessments free of cost by experts. A total of 150 students, faculty and staff members of SXUK underwent these medical tests. They also received medical guidance from the medical practitioners in the camp.
