As a part of MoU signed between St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (SXUK) and Webel, the two organisations jointly conducted a one-week Refresher course on ‘Data Analytics and Machine Learning’ from August 21-26, 2023 at the university campus.

Participants from various colleges, universities, industry and government organisations enrolled for the refresher course. The workshop was conducted in blended mode.

Dr. Tuhin Utsab Paul, Head, Department of Computer Science; Dr. Tanushree Biswas, a faculty member of Xavier Business School and Mr. Kaushik Halder, Commercial and Education Manager, Webel were the conveners and inaugurated the programme on August 21, 2023 in online mode. They explained the scope of the course to the participants.

Experts discussed different topics related to data analytics in the week-long refresher course along with practical sessions. Dr. Tanushree Biswas took a session on ‘Introduction to Data Sciences’. Dr. Dreamlee Sharma, University of Delhi conducted a session on ‘Hypotheses Testing and Regression.’

Dr. Manisha Pal, Head, Department of Statistics, SXUK delivered a lecture on ‘Cluster Analysis and Factor Analysis’. Dr. Sayan Das of Dept. of Computer Science discussed ‘Machine Learning & Data Analytics’.

Experts from Webel-Fujisoft-Vara Centre of Excellence took the practical sessions. Mr. Sourabh Mukherjee, Associate Managing Director, Accenture delivered a speech on ‘Industrial Application of Data Science and AI’ on the concluding day.

At the valedictory session, Rev. Dr. John Felix Raj. S.J., Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of SXUK said, “There is a high need of such collaborative programmes which are helpful for participants to learn from industry perspective”. He also highlighted the importance of data analytics and then distributed the certificates to participants.
