RELEVANCE OF GENDER DIVERSITY IN BUSINESS
A webinar on the topic "Relevance of Gender Diversity in Business" was organized by the Department of Commerce (Morning Section) on the 5th of March 2021 from 11 am onwards. The Resource Person for the one hour long webinar was Ms. Nita Karmakar. Ms. Nita Karmakar is an Independent Director at TSLPL and Former CII Regional Director (Eastern & North East Region). She is also a Governing Board Member of the JIS University Kolkata.
The webinar was conducted by the Department looking forward to International Women's Day and for broadening the perspective of students with regards to the concept of Gender Diversity. The Session was attended by 370 participants, being postgraduate and undergraduate students of Commerce and the Faculty members from the Department of Commerce (Morning Section).
Ms. Nita Karmakar, the resource person shared her first-hand experience and the nuances of the corporate structure. Appointment of Women directors since the introduction of the provision in The Companies Act 2013 has constantly been discussed and deliberated upon by all the concerned stakeholders across sectors. It was a stimulating and enriching experience with the active participation of the faculty members and the students alike through poll questions posed by the Resource Person on the interesting aspects of appointment of women and independent directors and balance of genders in Board rooms.
