RDC hosts International Conference
The Research Development Cell (RDC) of St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (SXUK) organised a two-day International Conference on the Convergence of Artificial Intelligence, Human Rights, and IPR on June 13 and 14, 2025 at the university campus.
It aimed to address the complex and critical issues that involve ethical, legal, and social considerations on AI and Human Rights & AI and IPR.
Rev. Dr. John Felix Raj, S.J., Vice-Chancellor of SXUK delivered the inaugural address. He said, “The impact of digital technology on society is heightened by the recent emergence of AI in every sphere of life. The convergence of AI and IPR allows the creation of new digital assets. It also complicates the authorship and ownership of AI-generated content.”
The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Dr. Nirmal Kanti Chakrabarti, Vice Chancellor, West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata. He gave a detailed insight into AI on Human Rights and IPR. He also gave illustrations of several judicial pronouncements. He stressed that it is essential to have a balanced approach to foster IPR innovation and to safeguard IPR protection.
A total of 70 research papers were presented at this conference and 102 participants registered as authors and co-authors.
