Rev. Dr. John Felix Raj, S.J., Vice-Chancellor of St. Xavier's University, Kolkata, inaugurated the Grand Football Tournament 2025, a flagship event organized by the Centre for Social Outreach Programme (CSOP) on November 2, 2025. The tournament, themed "Empowering Youth through Sports," brought together young football enthusiasts from Dharmatala-Pachuria Village (2KM from SXUK).

The Kick-Off

The Vice-Chancellor was joined by Mr. Milan Gazi, the village president, and Mr. Anix Gazi, the local School Headmaster, as they kicked off the tournament. In his inspiring address, Father Raj emphasized the importance of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship, encouraging the youth to strive for excellence both on and off the field. He also extended an invitation to the young participants to join St. Xavier's University, Kolkata, to foster a harmonious and supportive community that bridges the gap between the university and the village.

A Day of Sports and Camaraderie

The tournament witnessed energetic matches, vibrant community participation, and the joyful involvement of student volunteers from SXUK and villagers alike. The football field was abuzz with cheers, trophies, and camaraderie, symbolizing the Xavier's mission of "forming men and women for others" extending beyond the classroom into the heart of the community.

Fr. Vice-Chancellor expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the CSOP unit, deputy director, assistant director and all volunteers, participants, and supporters for making this initiative a grand success. The event promoted youth engagement, holistic growth, and the Jesuit spirit of service through sports, empowering the youth to become men and women for others with better future prospects.
