IQAC organises awareness programme on Intellectual Property Rights
In a bid to make the faculty members aware about rising threat of fake information, plagiarism and other issues related to research works, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (SXUK) organised an awareness programme on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) on January 20, 2023. The resource person was Abhishek Sen, representative of the Patent Office, Kolkata, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India.
This guest lecture session was held under the ‘Kalam Programme for Intellectual Property Literacy and Awareness Campaign’ (KAPILA) and ‘National Intellectual Property Awareness Mission’ (NIPAM), as per the UGC guidelines. Mr. Sen discussed various types of IPR – patents, trademarks, copyright and trade secrets, etc. He mentioned and guided teachers how to make copyright of their individual research works, how to get patents and prevent copying or misusing their valuable works and data by others.
He further discussed several IPR related acts like Trademarks Act, 1999; Patents Act, 2005; Copyright Act, 1957; and Designs Act, 2000 and analysed the loopholes. The session witnessed huge participation of all faculty members, followed by an interaction. All participants were given online certificates by the Ministry of Commerce, Govt. of India.
