Department of Mass Communication of St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (SXUK) organised a special lecture on emerging trends in corporate communications, with a special focus on corporate social responsibility (CSR) on October 28, 2024 at the university campus.

The speaker was Mr. Subir Ghosh, an eminent academician and a former senior Public Relations professional. Mr. Ghosh highlighted the growing importance of CSR as an ethical commitment of companies.

Mr. Ghosh also emphasised that companies are expected to actively contribute to societal well-being, whether through environmental initiatives, supporting local communities, or upholding ethical business practices.

He further stressed that modern corporations need to recognise their roles in addressing social challenges, suggesting that their responsibilities extend beyond profit-making to creating a positive impact on society. He advocated that taking genuine steps toward social responsibility not only builds goodwill but also strengthens a company’s brand reputation.

While concluding, Mr. Ghosh underscored that CSR is a core component of corporate communications today. He urged companies to embed social responsibility into their strategies, as these efforts are essential to a sustainable corporate image. Students found the session highly enriching.
