Dept of Computer Science celebrates success of Chandrayaan-3
In a bid to celebrate the success of Chandrayaan-3 and the National Engineer’s Day, the birth anniversary of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, a pioneer in civil engineering in India, Department of Computer Science of St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (SXUK) organised an online lecture session by an eminent scientist on September 15, 2023.
The topic was ‘Remote Sensing Techniques and Its Applications’. Dr. Raj Kumar, Professor Satish Dhawan Scientist, ISRO and the former Director of National Remote Sensing Centre, ISRO, Hyderabad was the guest speaker.
In his inaugural speech, Rev. Dr. John Felix Raj, S.J., Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of SXUK said, “As an Indian, I am proud of success of the Chandrayaan-3's landing on the Moon. It was a stroke of genius in Indian engineering.”
Dr. Raj Kumar conducted an informative session on ‘Remote Sensing Techniques and Applications’ as part of the virtual celebration of Chandrayaan-3's recent success. He also narrated missions of ISRO and expansion of India's space programme that once started with INSAT and NaVIC.
Prof. Kumar also presented a few case studies showcasing the successful application of remote sensing technology in various engineering projects including Chandrayaan-3.
The event was conducted to enlighten students about the importance of remote sensing technology in the field of engineering. The programme concluded with an interactive session.
