Department of Mass Communication organizes book reading session on Teachers Day
To celebrate the Teachers Day, Department of Mass Communication, St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (SXUK) organised a first of its kind book reading session ‘Bookrew’ involving the joint participation of students and faculty members on September 5, 2022. The anchoring of the show was innovatively performed through a role play format where three undergraduate students led the audience into the show by playing the role of teacher and students.
The event began with the reading of newly authored book ‘Tides- Story Bank’ of Rev Fr. John Felix Raj, S.J., Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, SXUK narrated by Prof. Harish Kumar in an innovative radio drama format with background music. Other books that were collectively read by students and faculty members were Roberto Bolano’s ‘Amulet’, Rabindranath Tagore’s ‘Gitanjali’, Simon de bouvoir’s ‘Second Sex’, Arundathi Roy’s ‘Azadi’, Manu Joseph's ‘Serious Men’, Brandon Sanderson’s ‘Mistborn trilogy’ and Rakesh Maria’s ‘Let Me Say It Now’. The participants explored innovative methods of storytelling, poetry and musical performances to narrate the stories.
The session ended with a meaningful segment where the final year students together gifted a book to show their solidarity to the first year student Ms. Prateeti Bhattacharjee who has been bravely fighting leukemia.
