St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (SXUK) organised a three-day orientation programme for the newly admitted students to B.A. in Mass Communication from August 8 to August 10, 2022.

In the inaugural speech, Rev. Fr. John Felix Raj, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of SXUK advised the students to be careful and attentive in their studies right from the very first day. As the students have just completed their school education and joined the university as the first step to the higher studies, Fr. Raj advised them to be innovative and dedicated towards the education and involve themselves in every activity of the University. Prof. Ashis Mitra, Registrar of SXUK narrated the rules and regulations of the University to the students.

The second day of the orientation programme began with a very insightful session on live news reporting by Mr. Sukhendu Sarkar, Reporter, Republic Bangla. He vividly narrated the role and responsibilities of reporters in media organisations.

It was followed by another delightful session by Dr. Harish Kumar about radiography. He discussed on career prospects of a radio jockey. The department also invited Ms. Sukanya Das, a reputed public relations manager who interacted with the students regarding various PR issues. Her vast experience in the field gave the students an insight in PR activities.

On the final day of the orientation programme, a session on photography was held by Mr. Shubham Paul, a noted photographer. He discussed on various types of camera shots and lenses. Another session on advertising was organised in which Ms. Waindrilla Saha, a reputed advertising manager was invited who shared her working experiences with the students.

The orientation programme was concluded with a profound lecture by renowned filmmaker, Mr. Mrityunjoy Saha on filmmaking, OTT platforms and transmedia platforms of a particular franchise.
