75TH INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION
Kolkata, August 15, 2021: The 75th Independence Day of our motherland was celebrated with great fervour and gaiety at the University campus adhering to COVID-19 protocols. The national flag was hoisted by Padmashree Awardee, Prof. (Dr.) Mammen Chandy, Director, Tata Medical Centre, Kolkata and Rev. Dr. John Felix Raj, Vice-Chancellor, St. Xavier's University, Kolkata.
Prof. (Dr.) Mammen Chandy shared the immortal quote of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru with the students during his deliberation, "Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time comes when we shall redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom."
Father Vice-Chancellor reminded the congregation about the relentless efforts showcased by the medical fraternity during COVID-19 pandemic. He also reiterated that the country lost some eminent doctors and medical staff, who risked their lives to save our near and dear ones. The gracious presence of Dr. Mammen Chandy on this auspicious day is our humble tribute to all the medical professionals.
The students, faculty and staff members renewed their commitment in upholding the unity and integrity of the nation.
