Xinephile celebrates 100th year of Mrinal Sen
Xinephile, the film society of St. Xavier's University, Kolkata (SXUK) celebrated the centenary year of Shri Mrinal Sen, the legendary Indian filmmaker on February 27, 2024 in the university campus.
The society conducted the screening of one of Sen’s famous films, ‘Bhuvan Shome’ at the Father Albert Huart Hall amid the presence of faculty members and students of the university.
Shekhar Das, a National award winning filmmaker was the Guest of Honour in this programme.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Achyut Chetan, Dean, Faculty of Arts & Social Studies, SXUK, followed by felicitation of Mr. Das by Dr. Reshmi Naskar, Professor-in-Charge, Xinephile.
Mr. Das delivered an insightful lecture on the contribution of Mrinal Sen to Indian Cinema. A montage of the films made and directed by Mrinal Sen was screened before ‘Bhuvan Some’ was played. The event witnessed the spontaneous participation of around 350 students and faculty members of SXUK.
The film captivated the audience with its storytelling prowess and visual brilliance. A post-screening discussion was held where Mr. Das shared his valuable input, listened to the queries of audience and responded. The entire event was coordinated by Dr. Reshmi Naskar and her team members.
