Xaverian sports enthusiasts visit Mohun Bagan club
Students of Department of Mass Communication made a visit to the Mohun Bagan Atletico Club, Kolkata on August 1, 2025. The visit took place to make students of Sports Journalism aware of the history of Mohun Bagan club and its remarkable achievements in national and regional tournaments.
Students visited the management office and interacted with the club management team. While interacting with the students, a senior official from the management said, “Football is witnessing dwindling interest because of the nuclear family concept. Parents mostly want their children to emerge as cricketers for various reasons. However, in the process, the sense of community that football fosters gets lost.”
He further added, “To safeguard football's future, children must be encouraged to play it casually with friends on school grounds. That’s where the love for the game truly begins.”
Students also visited the club’s prized possessions, their Hall of Fame. Everyone stood in awe before the glorious trophy cabinet, housing countless national and international accolades.
Students also stepped onto the practice ground and found that despite the downpour, players were sprinting, passing, and shooting with remarkable agility and ball control. What made the experience extraordinary was the presence of their fans gathered along the sidelines, drenched but undeterred.
Among the many stars on the field, one name stood out the most—Vishal Kaith, India’s number one goalkeeper and a Mohun Bagan legend. Dr. Somak Sen, faculty of Department of Mass Communication, organised the visit.
