Xaverian Spirit on Display at Xavier’s University Cricket League 2026
The Xavier’s University Cricket League, organised by the St. Xavier’s University Kolkata Alumni Association, was successfully held over two days on January 31, 2026 and February 1, 2026 at the SXUK Ground, witnessing enthusiastic participation from the larger Xaverian community.
The tournament featured six teams—Corridor Masters, Semester Survivors, Exam Warriors, Frontbench Legends, Backbenchers XI, and Hostel Super Kings. Each team was uniquely composed of 6 alumni members, 4 final-year students, and 4 faculty/staff members, and captained by an alumni Member, symbolising the spirit of unity and inclusiveness that defines the Xaverian family.
The tournament was ceremoniously inaugurated by Rev. Fr. John Felix Raj, SJ, Vice-Chancellor, St. Xavier’s University Kolkata & President, St. Xavier’s University Kolkata Alumni Association. A special moment marked the opening ceremony when the six team captains formed a Guard of Honour as Fr. President entered the field, setting a dignified and inspiring tone for the league.
After a series of closely contested matches across the two days, the Final Match was played between Semester Survivors and Exam Warriors, with Semester Survivors emerging as the champions. The matches showcased competitive cricket, teamwork, and true sportsmanship.
Dr. Tutun Mukherjee, faculty member of Xavier Business School, was adjudged the Player of the Tournament for his outstanding all-round performance. Anikesh Kumar, a final year student of B.Com (Day) was adjudged the Best Batsman, Harsh Jindal, an alumnus from B.Com Batch of 2025 was adjudged the Best Bowler and Debraj Nandi, an alumnus from the MBA Batch of 2024 the Best Fielder.
The tournament truly brought together the alumni, faculty, staff, and students, reinforcing the bond within the Xaverian family. Rev. Fr. President appreciated the initiative and leadership of the Honorary Secretary, Mr. Vatsal Chirimar, and his team for organising the league and fostering camaraderie through sport.
The Xavier’s University Cricket League stood as a memorable celebration of unity, excellence, and the enduring Xaverian spirit.
