The morning section of Commerce department of St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata(SXUK) organised a one day seminar on ‘Eye Care in Digital Era’ on March 23,2022.Dr. Amitava Biswas, Director of Ophthalmology, Sunetra Eye Care Centre Kolkata was the chief guest in the seminar.

Dr. Biswas shared experiences from the past,how families used to spend time together when digital devices were not in use. Nowfamily members are segregated from each other due to the advent of digital devices, he opined. He briefly explained the statistics of active internet users and how every year they are increasing by 4%.He also narrated how human eyes get affected with dry eye syndrome due to excessive use of digital devices. Dr. Biswas presented ample case studies in this regard. He further stressed on taking precautions like giving rest to eyes, using of anti-glare glasses, avoidingexcessive use of smart phonesduring night, consuming nutritious foods to keep eyes healthy, etc.

The seminar concluded with an interactive session with the students. Rev. Dr. Soosai Nayagam, S.J.,Associate Dean of the Department of Commerce, Morning Sectiondelivered the vote of thanks.
