St. Xavier’s University Kolkata Alumni Association celebrated the World Environment Day in the University campus on Friday, 3rd June, 2022. On this occasion, 500 saplings were distributed to faculty members and the 6 neighbouring villages adopted by the University.

On the occasion, Fr. John Felix Raj, SJ, Vice-Chancellor, the University & President of St. Xavier’s University Kolkata Alumni Association declared the University’s commitment to become a plastic free campus. He handed over saplings to representatives of the six neighbouring villages adopted by the University and all the staff members. All the stakeholders of the University took an Environment Protection Pledge led by the Hony. Secretary of the Alumni Association, Mr. Vatsal Chirimar.

The Jesuits have framed the Universal Apostolic Preferences for 2019-2029, one of which is “To Collaborate in the Care for our Common Home.” A Sit & Draw Competition was also organised on the occasion with children from Kalthelberia, Kulberia, Boenta, Hathishaka, Jeerangancha and Dharamtalla-Panchuria villages on theme “Caring for our Common Home.” The program enede with a high tea.
