Xavier University Sports Society (XUSS) of St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (SXUK) organised the Annual Sports Day on January 25, 2025 in the university playground.

Commodore Ajay Yadav, Naval Officer-in-Charge, West Bengal and the Commanding Officer of INS Netaji Subhas was the Guest of Honour. His wife, Ms. Meena Yadav, was also present at the event.

While inaugurating the event, Rev. Dr. John Felix Raj, S.J., Vice-Chancellor of SXUK said, “Sports is an integral part of education. It helps to build up a strong body and mind. It also helps to increase concentration level of an individual. I congratulate all the participants for their performance in different sports events.”

Father Felix Raj and Commodore Ajay Yadav commenced the programme through hoisting the University flag in the playground and flying a flight of pigeons. The event witnessed the parade by the Army Band, Bihar Regiment, followed by students and faculty members of each department, support staff members, and alumni members.

A series of sports events took place in which faculty members, support staff members and students participated. Winners in each event were awarded by Father Felix Raj, Prof. Ashis Mitra, Registrar and other dignitaries.

Arqish Hussain of BA, LL.B (Hons) was awarded the Fr. Joseph Maliyekal Memorial Trophy, and Shristi Mukherjee of XBS bagged the Fr. Joe D’Souza Memorial Trophy as the best male and female athletes respectively. The event was concluded with a lunch.
