The competition, widely regarded as the largest Moot Court Competition in East India, was organised by the Moot Court Society, Xavier Law School, in collaboration with Surana & Surana International Attorneys and Surana & Surana Academic Initiatives, and was held from 16th to 18th April 2026. Dr. Animesh Das and Dr. Asif Iqubal Shah were the Convener and Co-Convener, respectively, of the Competition. It commenced with the Inaugural Ceremony on 16th April 2026, formally inaugurated by the Respected Registrar, Rev. Dr. Xavier Jeyaraj, in the presence of the Chief Guest Hon’ble Dr. Justice Sambuddha Chakrabarti, Chairperson of the West Bengal Tax Tribunal, and Mr. Preetam Surana, Partner in Dispute Resolution, Surana and Suran International Attorneys. In their addresses, the dignitaries highlighted the growing importance of specialised legal expertise, particularly in the dynamic field of technology law, where legal systems must evolve alongside digital advancements, thereby setting a tone of intellectual rigor and professionalism for the competition.

The competition witnessed a turnout of 20 teams comprising approximately 60 students from various law schools, colleges, and universities from across India. Participants were presented with a moot proposition that reflected areas of Technology Law, data privacy, and digital ethics. Following the inauguration, the competition proceeded with two Preliminary Rounds, which were conducted on 16th April 2026. These rounds focused on assessing the foundational strength of legal arguments, clarity of thought, and advocacy skills. At the conclusion of the Preliminary Rounds, eight teams qualified for the Quarter Final rounds. The advanced rounds were held on 17th April 2026. These advanced rounds included the Quarter Finals and Semi-Finals, which were adjudicated by a distinguished panel comprising experienced professors, senior advocates, and retired district court judges. The Final Round was presided over by an eminent bench consisting of Hon’ble Justice Shampa Sarkar, Judge of the Calcutta High Court, Hon’ble Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharyya, Judge of the Calcutta High Court, and Dr. Shantanu Mukherjee, Advocate at the Supreme Court of India.

The event concluded with a prestigious Valedictory Ceremony graced by the Chief Guest, Hon’ble Justice I.P. Mukerji, Chairperson of the West Bengal Human Rights Commission and addresses by the Respected Registrar, Rev. Dr. Xavier Jeyaraj and Mr. Preetam Surana, Partner in Dispute Resolution, Surana and Suran International Attorneys. To recognise excellence, the competition featured a total cash prize pool of ₹1 lakh, with awards distributed across 16 categories, celebrating outstanding achievements in advocacy, research, and memorial drafting, thereby marking the event as a resounding success.
