A group of 19 girl students from across Kolkata and nearby areas came together to the Department of Social Work, SXUK today 9 April 2026 (Thursday) with enthusiasm for ‘First-Generation Learning & College Life Exposure Visit’ organized in collaboration with Udayan Care, Kolkata.

The students are a part of the Udayan Shalini Fellowship Programme (Shalinis)—students (STEM) who have recently completed Class XII or are in their final year of graduation. They were accompanied by a team feom Udayani Care led by Mr. Somok Basak.

The session began with a warm welcome by Dr. Srenwantee Bhattacharya, followed by an insightful address by Prof. Sushmita Halder, Dean FASS who highlighted inclusive education and reminded students that financial challenges should never limit their academic dreams, while also stressing the importance of well-being.

Students engaged in interactive and enriching sessions covering: Academic pathways in Science, University life & admissions and Career planning and opportunities facilitated by Dr. Tuhin, Dean Faculty of Science, SXUK. Mr. Ajitesh from the Admission office SXUK also interacted with the Shalinis. All queries—from courses to campus life—were thoughtfully addressed, making the experience both informative and empowering.

The programme also featured a vibrant cultural performance by MSW Sem IV students, followed by a guided campus and library tour, giving participants a real feel of university life.

The event was made possible through the dedicated efforts of faculty members, along with MSW Sem-II students Mawish and Suman who are doing their fieldwork with Udayan Care and active collaboration of Udayan Care.

Overall, it was a motivating and enriching experience—encouraging young minds to dream big, pursue higher education, and move forward with confidence and determination.
