Dept of Statistics hosts guest lecture
Department of Statistics of St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata, organised a guest lecture for the postgraduate students of Statistics and Computer Science on January 4, 2024.
The speaker was Dr. Nitis Mukhopadhyay, an eminent statistician and Professor, Department of Statistics, University of Connecticut-Storrs, U.S.A. He delivered a lecture on ‘Sufficiency-Completeness-UMVUE and Related Issues: Some Personal Reflections’.
Prof. Mukhopadhyay dwelt at length on the concepts of sufficiency, completeness, UMVUE (Uniformly Minimum Variance Unbiased Estimator) and discussed related issues. He also narrated the significance of Rao-Blackwellization and Basu’s theorem in deriving important results in the field of statistical inference.
All the students of both departments and faculty members attended the lecture. An interactive session took place at the end. Students found the session highly enriching.
