Dept of Mass Communication celebrates XavComm’26
XavComm’26, the annual inter-college media fest of the Department of Mass Communication of St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (SXUK), was held on January 30-31, 2026 at the university campus. The theme of the event was “Fictional Realism: Echoes of the Make-Believe.”
The fest was inaugurated by Rev. Dr. John Felix Raj, S.J., Vice-Chancellor amid the presence of esteemed dignitaries and faculty members of the institution.
XavComm’26 brought together around 400 external students from 40 colleges, fostering critical engagement with media, storytelling, and contemporary communication practices.
The event hosted a range of academic and practice-oriented events, spanning reporting, ad-making, podcasting, photography, performance, and broadcast-based competitions, complemented by study abroad interactions with Fragomen and a Canon hands-on workshop on street photography.
The first day also featured a session with media professionals and industry interactions with the team of the upcoming release ‘Mon Maaney Na’. Conversations held with the cast and the rest of the team provided the young minds with anecdotes and insights into the media industry.
Student-centric flagship events such as Mr. & Ms. Mass Comm and Mr. & Ms. XavComm further encouraged confidence, creativity, and professional presentation. The second day concluded with a closing awards ceremony, where the “Best College Award” was bagged by the Institute of Business Management, JU.
This two-day creative journey of light, laughter, and learning finally ended on a musical note with an incredible performance by The Yellow Taxi.
