WEBINAR ON 'RELEVANCE OF NETAJI'S TEACHINGS IN CONTEMPORARY AND YOUNG INDIA'

January 27, 2021
Organized by: Commerce & Management
Posted on: February 03, 2021

An Online student Webinar on the "Relevance of Netaji's Teachings in Contemporary and Young India" was organised by the Morning Section of the Faculty of Commerce and Management via the Google Meet platform on 23.01.2021 at 4 P.M. as a part of Netaji's 125th Birth Anniversary celebrations.
The guest speaker, Dr. Karmakar (Professor of Jadavpur University, Kolkata) delivered the talk emphasising that Bose had profound faith in what the youth can do to build a better world. According to Dr. Karmakar, Netaji believed that enthusiasm, sacrifice and courage - are the special attributes of youth. During Netaji's student years in Calcutta, he had clearly displayed his inborn qualities of leadership and charisma, and the ability to make personal sacrifices for the good of the larger community. Dr. Karmakar highlighted that Netaji was a child of the Indian Renaissance and was inspired by the teachings of Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda, which he practised throughout his life. His ideas of freedom and social justice were not borrowed from the west, but were drawn from the rich traditions and culture of India as pointed out by the speaker.
Summing up, Dr. Karmakar highlighted that the role of the youth thus has to be built on two pillars - a vision for a better world and character and promotion of integrity in public life.
The emcee for the event was Prof. Sovik Mukherjee, Academic Coordinator of the Morning Section under the Faculty of Commerce and Management. The session concluded with the students expressing their views on how the relevance of Netaji's teachings is crucial not only for the "youth" of our nation but also in redefining "women empowerment".
