ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES:

General Guidelines for All Courses:

• Age of the candidate should be 20 years or less (22 years or less for SC,ST or OBC) as on 1st July 2024.
• No candidate shall be eligible for admission after a lapse of more than three years from the year of passing the previous qualifying examination. The year of admission will not be taken into account while calculating 3 years from the year of passing the previous qualifying examination.
• Candidate will be selected provisionally for admission on the basis of the marks of Xavier Law Admission Test (XLAT [Phase II]) 2024. However, for the confirmation of final admission the student must pass Plus Two examination conducted by a recognised Board/Council in India and obtain minimum of 45% marks in the aggregate and must pass, as per the passing norm of the respective Board/Council in each of the 4 subjects included in the aggregate calculation, failing which the provisional selection of the student will be cancelled.
• If a candidate is selected provisionally (on the basis of the marks of Xavier Law Admission Test [XLAT] 2024 [Phase II]) but fails to fulfil the admission criteria (as mentioned here in), the candidate will not be eligible for admission, and the provisional selection will be cancelled. The paid fees will be refunded as per rules of the University.
• A student must have studied and passed in English in the +2 level (excluding the foreign students for whom there is a separate set of rules).
• Aggregate is calculated with four subjects at +2 level including the compulsory subjects as indicated in the eligibility criteria for application and the subjects having the maximum marks from the rest of the subjects (candidates must not include a subject which is among “subjects must not be included” list mentioned here in).

The following subjects must not be included in the calculation of aggregate:

• Marks in all subjects indicated in the +2 level mark sheet must be entered in the application form.
• Students passing the GCE examination of the UK are eligible for admission only if they have completed “O” Level Examination (Minimum five passes) and completed ‘A’ Level (with minimum three passes) and English at “AS” Level. Such candidates must have completed and passed the “A” level examination at the time of application. Candidates with projected mark sheets are not eligible. However, they must fulfil all other requirements.
• Students from foreign countries need to produce their English Proficiency certificate (TOEFL, IELTS) if the instruction of study in the qualifying examination is not in English medium at the time of admission.

The University reserves the right to reject the candidature and/or cancel the application/admission at any stage if an applicant fails to fulfil the above conditions.

B.COM. LL.B. (HONS.) – Five-year degree programme

RESERVATION FOR EWS (Economically Weaker Sections): Maximum 10% of the total seats for each course are reserved for EWS category. This provision is made as per the government guidelines. The candidate/s who opt for this category will be required to upload the EWS certificate issued by the competent authority. Without the certificate the application will be cancelled. Candidates are requested to check the detailed government notification before opting to apply for this category.

INFORMATION RELATED TO ADMISSION TEST (PHASE II) :

• MODE OF TEST AND OTHER DETAILS:
  Internet Based Test (IBT) will be held for Xavier Law Admission Test (XLAT) 2024. The requirements are mentioned below:

  Windows 7 or above, 2 GB RAM or above, Core 2 Duo or above, 64-bit, 20 GB Free HDD Space in ‘C’ drive, Single plug and play color Web Camera with proper driver installed and working. In case of laptop, inbuilt web camera should be activated. Stable Internet connection will be required.

• DATES FOR MOCK TEST: 06.06.2024 and 07.06.2024.

General Guidelines for All Courses:

• No candidate shall be eligible for admission after a lapse of more than Five Years from the year of passing the previous qualifying examination. The year of admission will not be taken into account while calculating 5 years from the year of passing the previous qualifying examination.
• Every applicant must fulfil the eligibility criteria as laid down for each course.
• The Graduation degree course must be UGC recognised and must be of at least three years. For degrees awarded by the Foreign Universities, AIU guidelines for equivalence procedures will be followed and the candidate will be required to submit the relevant document at the time of admission. Candidates having degree with CGPA/GPA/DGPA etc. must have the equivalent percentage as prescribed in the eligibility criteria laid down for each course.
• If the final degree result is not published at the time of application, percentage of marks for eligibility will be calculated on the basis of the aggregate of 1st to 4th Semester or Part I and Part II or Year 1 and Year 2 (Applicable for 3 Years Degree Course) OR 1st to 6th Semester or Part I to Part III or Year 1 to Year 3 (Applicable for 4 Years Degree Course) OR 1st to 8th Semester or Part I to Part IV or Year 1 to Year 4 (Applicable for 5 Years Degree Course) and the candidate is required to pass in all papers.
• If, at the time of admission, final degree mark sheet cannot be shown, the admission will be provisional and the student must produce the final degree mark sheet latest by 29th October 2024; failing which, the admission is liable to be cancelled.
• If a student, who is admitted provisionally, fails to fulfil the eligibility regarding the required aggregate marks in graduation, admission of the student will be cancelled.
• If the admission is cancelled due to the above-mentioned reasons, fees will be refunded as per UGC Fee Refund Policy.
• The University reserves the right to reject the candidature and/or cancel the application / admission at any stage if an applicant fails to fulfil the above conditions.
• If it is found that information submitted by the candidate is not true, admission will be cancelled, and fees will not be refunded.
• For M.A. in English, M.A. in Economics, M.A. in Psychology, M. Sc is Statistics and M. Sc in Computer Science, if after the publication of final result the student is not able to obtain the Honours/Major degree, the admission to the aforementioned courses will be cancelled and for cancellation the UGC Fee Refund Policy will be applicable.
• Admission will be based on admission test marks.

Candidates who have Master's degree from a UGC recognized University or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed.

 Or

Equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution. However, in all such cases Association of Indian Universities (AIU) equivalence will be required.

Or

M.Phil. ( before 2024) in relevant discipline with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme. However, for the degrees obtained from foreign Universities, Association of Indian Universities (AIU) equivalence will be required.

Relaxation:

A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade in Master's degree / M.Phil. programme may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/ Differently Abled (Divyangjan) categories.

Selection Procedure:

• Candidates who have not qualified for fellowship / scholarship in UGC-NET/ UGC- CSIR NET/GATE/CEED and similar National level tests:

The candidate will have to appear in the St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata Research Entrance Test (XU- RET).  The duration of the XU-RET will be of two hours and will comprise of 50 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) of 2 marks each with a total of 100 marks for all Ph.D. programmes. Test will have two sections 50 marks (25 questions) for each.

• The Research Entrance Test will be followed by an interview on the subject concerned. Candidates who score 50% and above marks in XU-RET will be eligible to appear for the Interview.

• Candidates who have qualified for fellowship / scholarship in UGC-NET/ UGC- CSIR NET/GATE/CEED and similar National level tests:

Candidates shall be exempted from St. Xavier’s University Research Entrance Test (XU-RET) conducted by the University but have to appear in the interview on the subject to be conducted by the respective Departmental Research Committee (DRC).

The weightages for selection of the candidates are given as follows:

Mode of XU-RET:

St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata Research Entrance Test (XU-RET) will be held in offline mode, and the candidate will be required to come to the University campus for the test.
No TA/DA will be paid for appearing in the XU-RET.

Mode of Interview:

Interview will be held physically, and the candidate will be required to come to the University Campus.            
No TA/DA will be paid for appearing in the Interview.

Note: It is mandatory for working applicants to submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) in the given format, from the current employer at the time of admission.   

Ph.D. Programme Fee:

1. Application Fee: ₹2500 (at the time of Online Application)

2. Ph.D. Programme Fee Details:
   

   Total Annual Fees: ₹1,00,000/-

   The annual fees are to be paid in two equal instalments. 1st & 2nd instalment of annual fees of ₹ 50,000/- for each semester to be paid before the commencement of each semester.

   Fees to be paid at the time of admission: 1st instalment of annual fees of Year 1 (₹ 50,000/-) and ₹ 10,000/- (Refundable Security Deposit). Candidates may also opt to pay two instalments together.

3. St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata Alumni Membership Fee: ₹5015/-
   The alumni membership fee of ₹5015/- to be paid before the submission of the thesis.

Accommodation Facilities:

The outstation students may get hostel accommodation in the campus, if available. The hostel charges will have to be paid separately by student as per the university hostel rules.

Application and Admission Procedure:

• The eligible candidate to register and apply online and download the acknowledgement slip and application payment receipt after successful completion of the application and fee payment procedure.

• Candidate to download and fill up the offline application form and send it to the Ph.D. Office with a copy of acknowledgment slip, Application payment receipt and all other documents as mentioned in the application form. Offline application form is invalid without online registration and application. The offline application form will not be accepted after the last date.

• Eligible candidates who have not qualified for fellowship / scholarship in UGC-NET/ UGC- CSIR NET/GATE/CEED and similar National level tests will appear for XU-RET examination followed by the Interview and the eligible candidates who have qualified for fellowship / scholarship in UGC-NET/ UGC- CSIR NET/GATE/CEED and similar National level tests will appear for interview.

• Provisional selection list will be published, and admission procedure will be followed.
