SXUK organises third Doctoral Colloquium
St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata organised the third Doctoral Colloquium on October 30 & 31, 2021. Rev. Dr.John Felix Raj, S.J., Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, St. Xavier’s University, Kolkataand Doctoral Colloquium Chair delivered the inaugural address and highlighted the need to undertake research journey with Xaverian ethos.
Keynote addresses were delivered by Padma Shri Dr. Mammen Chandy, Director, Tata Medical Centre, Kolkataand Dr.Joyashree Roy, Bangabandhu Chair Professor, Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand.Dr. Niraj Kumar, Ph.D. Programme Coordinator and Doctoral Colloquium Co-Chairbriefed on different colloquium tracks to be held, its need and relevance for academic and research knowledge community.
The Doctoral Colloquium consisted of eight (8)different tracks on Sustainable Development, Management of Innovation and Technology and many such other related topics. This colloquium also had a plenary session on ‘Sustainable Excellence in Research Innovation and Entrepreneurship’ which included keynote speakers Dr. Roselina Ahmed Saufi, Professor, Faculty of Entrepreneurship and Business, University Malaysia Kelantan and Dr. P Venugopal, Professor, XLRI, Jharkhand, India.
The valedictory session address were delivered by Dr. K Seal, Professor and Department Chair, Director of Comparative Management Systems, Loyola Marymount University, LA,USA and Dr. Jatin Srivastava, Director, Institute for International Journalism, E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, Ohio University, Ohio, USA.
The track based Doctoral Colloquium,held on Microsoft Teams, was designed to provide supportive and constructive platform to the Ph.D. scholars of St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata and the Ph.D. scholars of other institutions of repute in India and abroad. More than fifty (50) Ph.D. scholars presented papers in the colloquium and interfaced with peer knowledge community across different sectors and disciplines under mentorship of faculty and technical chairpersons. The inaugural and valedictory sessions were streamed live on Facebook and YouTube.The University presently offers Ph.D. programmes in disciplines of Commerce, English, Mass Communication, Economics and Management.

Centre for Excellence in Research and Innovation (CERI)
The Center for Excellence in Research and Innovation is established as a part of St. Xavier's University, Kolkata to address knowledge deficit and skill gaps. This Centre for Excellence will help move the University to the next level of maturity model. This initiative will enable the University to stand up as a Multidisciplinary Education and Research University (MERU) which will create pace setting to get started on the path to multidisciplinary capacity, accreditation and autonomy with the mission to enable and support the University to develop into a Research driven University. Centre for Excellence will oversee and manage the development of the new institutional architecture with a clear articulated plan, milestones and commitment towards breaking the silos between disciplines in the University to encourage multi, inter, and cross-disciplinary conversation, interaction, events, education and research. Centre for Excellence shall catalyse and energise research and innovation across the University in all academic disciplines with a special focus on seeding and growing research thus creating a conducive ecosystem for research through competitive peer-reviewed funding, mentoring and facilitation.
Research Performance Framework
It is expected that all faculty across disciplines undertake research of the highest quality and continually seek to raise their level of research activity leading standards of excellence.
- High Quality Publications: Perform research at nationally and internationally recognised levels of excellence and regularly publish the results in leading outlets.
- Citations and other indicators of academic impact: Secure wide readership and academic impact for their research by using appropriate dissemination channels, including open access publication.
- Doctoral Supervision: Undertake doctoral supervision and satisfy the University expectations for the supervision of research scholars supporting the timely and successful completion of their research degrees.
