About the Department

The Department of Statistics started its operations from August 2022. It currently offers one undergraduate programme - B.Sc. (Hons.) in Statistics and Data Science and one postgraduate programme - M.Sc. in Statistics. The faculty at present includes three full-time teachers, one adjunct Professor and two visiting lecturers. The Department imparts extensive theoretical knowledge and rigorous practical training to its students through a multi-faceted teaching system. In addition to traditional textbook teaching, the Department employs the use of digital media such as PowerPoint presentations and video lectures to make lessons more interactive, and thereby foster independent thinking. The curriculum has been prepared with the requirements of the industry and related research organisations in mind, to offer a well-rounded academic programme. Advances in technology have paved the way for widespread computing for data analysis. For this purpose, the Department has a well-equipped laboratory with state-of-the-art computing facilities. Problem solving and programming skills are keys to both academic success and professional accomplishment. In addition, the Department has plans to further its knowledge base through seminars and workshops that will benefit students and faculty alike and help them keep up with the latest trends and technologies.
