Case Method of Teaching & Writing

Xavier Business School organized a 2-Day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) focused on the "Case Method of Teaching & Writing" from 24th to 25th July 2023. The main goal of the FDP was to empower faculty members and research scholars to effectively utilize the case method in their teaching, emphasizing communication, critical thinking, decision-making, and holistic problem-solving skills. The program featured interactive sessions led by esteemed professors, Prof. Bhaskar Basu and Prof. D.V. Ramana, covering diverse case studies from various domains. The FDP encouraged active participation and provided valuable insights, contributing to a dynamic learning environment. Overall, the FDP was a rewarding experience for all participants, aligning with the university's commitment to excellence in teaching and learning methodologies.

Consulting in a Hyper-Competitive World

One-Day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on "Consulting in a Hyper-Competitive World" was organized by Xavier Business School at St. Xavier's University, Kolkata on 6th July 2023. The objective of the FDP was to provide faculty members with insights into the nature, scope, and operational methods involved in consultancy.

The resource person for the programme was Dr. Kaushik Dutta who is a renowned Systems Thinker and has a rich and vast industry and consulting experience with corporate, government and international agencies. His sessions focused on various topics, including solving wicked problems, systems thinking, the viable systems model, and consulting in the digital world.

The FDP featured sessions on the following topics:

Session 1: Solving Wicked Problems: Understanding the characteristics of wicked problems and developing effective problem-solving approaches.

Session 2: Systems Thinking: Exploring the concept of systems thinking and its application in the consulting process.

Session 3: The Viable Systems Model: Understanding the components and dynamics of the viable systems model and its relevance in consultancy.

Session 4: Consulting in the Digital World: Examining the impact of digitalization on consulting practices and exploring digital tools and strategies.

The resource person provided valuable insights, shared case studies, and conducted interactive sessions to facilitate learning and knowledge exchange. The FDP encouraged active participation and engagement among the faculty members.

High level of knowledge

Xavier Business School, under the patronage of Rev. Fr. Dr. John Felix Raj S.J. and the leadership of Prof. Dr. Soma Sur, in collaboration with Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR, ERC) organized a Faculty Development Programme on Data Analytics from 26th November to 6th December, 2018. Keeping in mind the present industrial trend of data driven business and coordinating the academics to accommodate the industrial requirement, the curriculum of the FDP was designed. Besides all the in-house faculty members of St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata, faculties from other institutes of Kolkata had also joined in this FDP to make it a grand success. To train this august gathering, XBS invited experienced academicians and industrial practitioners of repute from ICSSR Kolkata, IIFT Kolkata, ISI Kolkata, NIT Durgapur, IMT Ghaziabad, SPSS South East Asia and St. Xavier’s University and the ten-day FDP became a huge success.

FDP on Case Based Teaching Pedagogy

Xavier Business School (XBS) organized a one-day Faculty Development Programme “Case Based Teaching Pedagogy” on 19th October 2020. Case based studies help the students to build up their analytical skills and enhances their ability in understanding and designing solutions to different managerial problems. In XBS, a large portion of the syllabus is delivered through case-based teaching mode and to sharpen the skills of the faculty members in case-based teaching pedagogy, the FDP was organized. Professor Arup Choudhury was the resource person for the FDP and all the faculty members of XBS participated in the FDP. It was a great learning experience for all of them and the FDP will definitely enhance their ability to shape their students in a better way.
