5-Day MDP on 'Leading and Managing in 21st Century'

Xavier Business School, St. Xavier's University, Kolkata, successfully hosted a 5-Day Management Development Programme for the executives of Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd. on November 7, 8, 9, 22, and 23, 2024.

On Saturday, May 25, 2024, Xavier Business School, St. Xavier's University, Kolkata organized a 1-Day Management Development Program (MDP) on the theme "Learning How to Learn: Accelerators and Blockers." The event took place at the University campus and saw an impressive turnout of over 30 participants, including junior, middle, and senior managers, executives from various corporate sectors, academicians, and research scholars.

The primary objective of the program was to sensitize attendees to the significance of continuous learning and the necessity of maintaining an upward learning curve in today's fast-paced environment. Recognizing that learning is no longer a mystique reserved for certain stages of life, the program emphasized that people of all ages and professional levels are continually learning, in a variety of settings.

The MDP aimed to unlock the principles of effective learning and foster a sense of curiosity, which serves as a crucial lever for individual, team, and organizational growth. By addressing both accelerators and blockers of learning, the program sought to equip participants with the knowledge and tools to enhance their learning capabilities, thereby driving personal and professional development.

Convergence 2024 - The HR Conclave

Xavier Business School in collaboration with HR Learning Network (IIDR), hosted Convergence 2024, a dynamic HR Conclave on February 18, 2024. The event witnessed an impressive turnout of over 100 HR professionals hailing from diverse industries.

The Conclave was designed to provide a platform for HR professionals to engage in enriching discussions, network with peers, and participate in fun-oriented activities. Throughout the day, attendees had the opportunity to partake in panel discussions, sharing insights and best practices from their respective fields. These discussions delved into emerging trends, challenges, and innovations in the realm of human resources.

In addition to the insightful discussions, the event featured dedicated networking sessions aimed at fostering connections and collaborations among attendees. These interactions facilitated the exchange of ideas and experiences, enriching the collective knowledge of all participants.

Moreover, Convergence 2024 provided a valuable learning experience for MBA students from Xavier Business School. MDP on ESG & Risk Management

Xavier Business School conducted a Management Development Program (MDP) on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) & Risk Management on February 17, 2024. The program attracted industry professionals, finance enthusiasts from both 1st and 2nd years of Xavier Business School, and other participants.

Session Highlights:

1. Inauguration Ceremony: Dr. M.V. Rao (IAS), Chairperson of WBERC was the Chief Guest of the Inaugural Session. His inaugural address was on the significance of ESG risk management.
2. Technical Session 1 - Foundation of ESG and ESG Risk Identification : Prof. (Dr.) Binoy Bhushan Chakraborty, Former Professor of Finance at IIM Calcutta emphasized the integral relationship between sustainability and profitability in corporate decision-making, highlighting the necessity of balancing ethical practices and business imperatives.
3. Technical Session 2 - Balancing ESG and Business: CS Kaushik Mukherjee, Executive Director of PCBL Ltd., explored areas like challenges during COVID-19, investment losses, corporate social responsibility, and integrating ESG norms with business.
4. Technical Session 3 - Emerging Business Risks and DEI for Business Continuity: Prof. (Dr.) Santanu Ganguly, Professor of Finance at Jaipuria Institute of Management, New Delhi and and Prof. (Dr.) Sitangshu Khatua, Dean – XBS, addressed stakeholder theory, corporate governance, and ESG factors in decision-making.
5. Technical Session 4 - Integrating Industry and Academia for ESG: Mr. Sayak Kumar Ghosh, a Facultative Underwriter-Property for Indian Subcontinent at Munich Re, importance of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors in investment decisions, emphasizing the need for sustainable practices in businesses to uphold reputation and long-term value creation.
The event was concluded with the Valedictory Session led by Dr. Sitangshu Khatua, Dean of Xavier Business School. This MDP offered a comprehensive understanding of ESG risks, governance, and industry-academia collaboration. Participants gained practical insights for effective ESG risk management.




September Symposium

Xavier Business School, St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata organized September Symposium on 9th September 2023.

The symposium commenced with Mr. Saibal Chatterjee, CMD of Lokenath Enterprise, delivering an enlightening session titled "Unleashing the Power of Marketing." Mr. Chatterjee masterfully elucidated the paramount significance of customer satisfaction through the lens of Product Augmentation, leaving the audience captivated.

The next event unfolded with grace and intellect, featuring a CEO's Talk by Mr. Somesh Dasgupta, Director of India Power, titled "From HR Function to Business Leadership: A Journey from Andrew Yule to India Power," provided invaluable insights into the evolution of leadership within the corporate landscape. This insightful discourse was seamlessly coordinated by Mr. Rahul Bose, enhancing the overall impact of the session.

Post a short tea break where the participants/audience networked, the symposium continued with a thought-provoking Round Table Session, focusing on "Navigating the Post-COVID Landscape: Evolving Dynamics in Higher Management Education." The speakers were Prof. Dr. Mohua Banerjee (Director of IMI, Kolkata), Mr. Arnab Basu, Consultant (Ex-McKinsey) and four MBA students from XBS and IMI Kolkata. Dr. Sitangshu Khatua, Dean of Xavier Business School adeptly moderated this enlightening discussion.

Dr. Mohua Banerjee, in her opening remarks during the Round Table session, delved into the profound impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the realm of examinations and education. She talked about the challenges faced during online examinations while emphasizing the adage that "Disruption is the new constant, and change is inevitable." She urged attendees to recognize the evolving landscape and embrace upskilling as a means of future-proofing their careers.

Arnab Banerjee, in his insightful address, encouraged attendees to prepare themselves for an ever-evolving world (VUKA world), invoking the need for critical thinking. He passionately championed agility and the pursuit of lifelong learning, imparting the wisdom that "Accept failure with dignity, success with humility."

The Round Table Session culminated with heartfelt contributions from students, who shared their personal experiences during the challenging period of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The symposium was concluded with a captivating skit presented by the students of XBS. This illuminated the essence of Management Education.




BUSINESS SUMMIT 2022: CHALLENGES OF INDUSTRY 4.0

On September 23rd, the students and faculty members of Xavier Business School gathered in the Albert Huart Hall to witness the first Business Summit organised by XBS. Mr. Sanjoy Banerjee, Managing Director and Head Global Delivery Centre, PwC, India was the Chief Guest for the Summit. He addressed the students on the growing importance of Strategic Management and Marketing in the present-day business world. He elaborated on the significance of the strategies used by organizations to deal with business volatility and iterated the various characteristics for pursuing these strategies.

The inaugural session was followed by the 1st panel discussion on β€˜Organizational Metamorphosis in the Post Pandemic Era'. The panellists for this session were Mr. Nirmalya Gupta, Practice Director and Global Head Delivery Lead at Cognizant, Mr. Subhadip Ghosh, Senior Vice President – Treasury, RBL Bank, Mr. Pratyay Lahiri, Zonal Head HR – East and OSD HR GAML, Ashok Leyland.

The 2nd panel discussion was on β€˜Digitalization of People Management' and the panellists for this panel were Ms. Bristhi Mondal, AVP – Human Resources at NRI FinTech, Mr. Shrutorsi Mukherjee, Assistant V.P. – HR, HDFC Bank Ltd, and Mr. Rahul Kashyap, Regional Head HRBP and L&D, Arvind Lifestyle Brand Ltd.

The day-long business summit was concluded with an inter-departmental business quiz moderated by Mr. Atri Bhattacharya, Secretary, Govt. of West Bengal at Departments of Water Resources and Information & Cultural Affairs.




NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CONSUMER CHOICES

Xavier Business School in collaboration with Institute of Advanced Studies in Complex Choices (IASCC), Hyderabad and Centre of Global Management & Responsible Leadership (CGMRL) of XLRI, Jamshedpur organized its first-ever two day National Conference on Consumer Choices: Impact of Digital Technology at St. Xavier’s University Kolkata on 19th and 20th December 2019.

The national conference was inaugurated by Mr. Roopen Roy, Founder & CEO of Sumantrana Management Consultants LLP and Ms. Chitra Sood, Director - Microsoft India, in the presence of Rev. Dr John Felix Raj, S.J., Vice-Chancellor, St Xavier's University Kolkata, Rev. Dr. Sebasti L Raj Pro-Vice-Chancellor, St Xavier's University Kolkata and Prof. Dr .P Venugopal, Dean, XLRI Jamshedpur.

Researchers from both the industry and academia presented their research papers at this national conference here. The two-day of various rigorous paper presentations, recommendations and suggestions from eminent guests and academic personalities, was ended with a spirited and pulsating panel discussion on the topic β€œπ‘°π’Žπ’‘π’‚π’„π’• 𝒐𝒇 π‘«π’Šπ’ˆπ’Šπ’•π’‚π’ π‘»π’†π’„π’‰π’π’π’π’π’ˆπ’š 𝒐𝒏 π‘ͺπ’π’π’”π’–π’Žπ’†π’“ π‘ͺπ’‰π’π’Šπ’„π’†π’”β€. The esteemed panelists for this discussion were – Mr. Surajit Banerjee, Mr.Aji Isaac Mathew, Mr. Mithun Aditya, Dr. Arnab Basu and the discussion was moderated by Dr. Soma Sur, Dean, Xavier Business School.



TALENT MANAGEMENT : ROUND TABLE 2.0

Xavier Business School in collaboration with Omnifin Solutions conducted the Round Table Conference on Talent Management on December 13, 2020 at St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata. The high powered panel discussed about Leadership and Emerging Trends in front of over 250 audiences. The esteemed panelists for the discussion were – Mr. Raj Kothari - Former Vice Chair and GTA Managing Partner at PwC Canada, Mr. Ratna Sekhar Adika – Director, HR&CA at Balmer Lawrie & Co. Ltd., Mr. Krishan Mishra - Head of North and East India, ACCA, Dr. Munmun Nath – Principal, Calcutta International School, Mr. Vivek Mishra – Chief People Officer, PwC SDC, Ms. Nandini Chakraborty – Executive Director at EY, Mr. Supriyo Sinha – Head, Strategy & New Initiatives at Axis Bank Ltd., and Rev. Dr. John Felix Raj S.J., Vice Chancellor, SXUK. The entire discussion was moderated by Mr. Sumeet Singh Arora, Director at The School Matters.
